Enduro GP Finland Day 1 Results 2026, Andrea Verona Beats Josep Garcia by Less Than a Second

By Dirt Bike Finder UK 23 May 2026, 17:50 • 4 min read

The 2026 EnduroGP World Championship delivered one of the closest battles of the season so far as Andrea Verona edged Josep Garcia by just 0.85 seconds after a brutal opening day at the GP of Finland in Salpausselkä.

After more than 53 minutes of racing across the Finnish forests, tests, and technical terrain, the two Red Bull KTM Factory Racing stars were separated by less than a second in a result that immediately sets the tone for what could become one of the greatest EnduroGP title fights in recent years.

While Verona claimed the overall victory, Garcia showed championship-winning pace throughout the day, trading fastest test times with the Italian across nearly every special test.

The razor-thin margin underlines just how intense the 2026 EnduroGP season has become.

Verona vs Garcia: The Rivalry Just Reached Another Level

Coming into Finland, many expected the sandy terrain and fast forest sections to create significant time gaps. Instead, fans witnessed an all-out sprint between two riders operating at an almost identical pace.

Verona ultimately stopped the clock at 53:31.89, with Garcia finishing just 0.85 seconds behind after ten special tests.

The battle swung back and forth throughout the day.

Garcia opened strongly by taking the fastest time in the second and third tests, but Verona responded with incredible consistency during the later laps, especially inside the final enduro and cross tests where every second became critical.

The fact that less than one second separated the pair after nearly an hour of racing highlights how evenly matched the KTM teammates currently are.

Zach Pichon Continues Breakthrough Season

French rider Zachary Pichon delivered another huge statement performance by taking third overall for TM Moto Boano Factory Enduro Team.

Pichon has quietly become one of the breakout stars of the 2026 EnduroGP season, and Finland may have been his most complete ride yet.

The Frenchman stayed within striking distance of the lead battle for most of the day before ultimately finishing 48.69 seconds behind Verona.

More importantly, Pichon once again showed the raw speed needed to challenge the factory KTM and Sherco riders on outright pace.

Holcombe Keeps Sherco in the Fight

Steve Holcombe placed fourth overall and took victory in the Enduro3 category for Team Sherco Factory Racing.

The British rider looked especially strong in the technical portions of the course and once again demonstrated why he remains one of the most complete riders in world enduro.

Holcombe’s consistency continues to be one of his biggest weapons. While others made mistakes in the rough Finnish terrain, the Sherco rider steadily built a solid result that could become extremely important later in the championship.

Hamish Macdonald’s Rise Continues

New Zealand’s Hamish Macdonald secured fifth overall in another impressive performance for Sherco.

Macdonald continues proving he belongs among the sport’s elite riders, showing impressive pace in the longer tests while maintaining strong consistency throughout the day.

His performance in Finland further strengthens the growing belief that he could soon challenge for regular podium finishes in EnduroGP.

Finnish Terrain Creates Unique Challenge

The GP of Finland remains one of the most unique stops on the EnduroGP calendar.

The Salpausselkä terrain combines deep sand, slippery roots, high-speed forest trails, and rough braking bumps that demand total precision from riders.

Unlike rocky southern European rounds where aggression often pays off, Finland rewards riders who can maintain momentum while staying smooth and mistake-free.

That style suited Verona perfectly on Day 1.

The Italian’s ability to remain calm and consistent in the roughest conditions likely made the crucial difference against Garcia.

What Day 1 Means for the Championship

The biggest takeaway from Finland is simple: the championship fight between Verona and Garcia is becoming increasingly difficult to separate.

Both riders have now shown they can win on vastly different terrain types, and neither appears willing to give away even the smallest advantage.

With margins now measured in tenths of a second instead of minutes, consistency and mistakes may ultimately decide the 2026 title.

Meanwhile, riders like Pichon, Holcombe, and Macdonald continue closing the gap to the KTM duo, creating what may become the deepest EnduroGP field in years.

If Day 1 in Finland proved anything, it is that the 2026 EnduroGP World Championship is far from settled.

And with another demanding day still to come in Salpausselkä, the battle between Verona and Garcia may only be getting started.
