Erzbergrodeo 2026 Prologue Results: Andrea Verona Holds Firm as Daniel Sanders Strikes Back on Day Two

By Dirt Bike Finder UK 6 Jun 2026, 17:14 • 5 min read

The battle for Iron Road Prologue supremacy is over, the front row is set, and the biggest names in hard enduro are now preparing for Sunday's legendary Red Bull Erzbergrodeo main event.

After two days of flat-out racing on the Iron Giant, it is EnduroGP superstar Andrea Verona who heads into the weekend as the fastest rider overall, despite Daniel Sanders producing a stunning ride on Saturday to top Day Two of the Iron Road Prologue.

With over 1,500 riders tackling the iconic Erzberg mountain, conditions changed dramatically between the two days. Friday's rain-soaked course created difficult and unpredictable conditions, while Saturday's drier surface allowed several riders to improve their times.

Yet despite the improved conditions, nobody could match the incredible benchmark Verona set on Day One.

Verona's Day One Masterclass Stands Strong

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider stunned the field on Friday with a blistering run of 10:26.143, immediately establishing himself as the rider to beat.

Many expected the drier conditions on Day Two to produce a completely reshuffled leaderboard, but Verona's time proved untouchable.

Although Dakar Rally winner Daniel Sanders responded with an impressive 10:32.957 on Saturday, it still left him more than six seconds adrift of Verona's overall benchmark.

In a discipline where tenths of a second often separate riders, a six-second margin over a ten-minute course is enormous.

The result underlines just how exceptional Verona's opening-day performance really was.

Daniel Sanders Shows Dakar Speed Transfers to Erzberg

Saturday belonged to Daniel Sanders.

The Australian rally raid star demonstrated exactly why many consider him one of the fastest off-road riders on the planet, attacking the Iron Road Prologue course with remarkable aggression and precision.

His Day Two victory confirms that the reigning Dakar champion remains one of the most versatile motorcycle racers in the world.

While Sanders is unlikely to contest Sunday's main Hare Scramble, his performance has been one of the biggest stories of the entire weekend.

Few expected a rally specialist to challenge the hard enduro elite so convincingly.

Carson Brown Delivers the Surprise of the Weekend

If there is one rider who has exceeded expectations, it is American fan favourite Carson Brown.

Brown's third-fastest time on Day Two elevated him into third place overall across both days and established him as one of the standout performers of the 2026 Erzbergrodeo so far.

The American's aggressive style has made him hugely popular among fans, but few predicted he would find himself ahead of multiple factory hard enduro stars in the overall standings.

Should Verona and Sanders skip Sunday's main race as expected, Brown could effectively inherit the first meaningful starting position on the front row.

That would give him a significant advantage before the riders even reach the first obstacle.

Lettenbichler Quietly Exactly Where He Wants to Be

While Andrea Verona and Daniel Sanders grabbed the headlines, four-time defending Erzbergrodeo champion Manuel Lettenbichler once again looked completely in control.

The Red Bull KTM rider finished fourth overall, comfortably securing a front-row starting position while avoiding unnecessary risks.

History suggests the Iron Road Prologue rarely predicts the eventual Erzbergrodeo winner.

Instead, experienced hard enduro specialists often focus on securing a strong start position while preserving energy and machinery for Sunday's brutal four-hour challenge.

From that perspective, Lettenbichler's weekend has gone perfectly to plan.

Electric Bikes Continue to Impress

One of the most fascinating developments of the 2026 Erzbergrodeo has been the performance of electric motorcycles.

Three Stark Future riders finished inside the overall top ten, with David Herbreteau sixth, Marc Sans seventh and former motocross world champion Sébastien Tortelli completing the top ten.

The results provide further evidence that electric technology is rapidly becoming competitive at the highest level of off-road competition.

As Sunday's main race approaches, attention will now turn to whether the Stark VARG machines can maintain that pace in the brutal technical terrain that defines Erzbergrodeo.

Big Names Make the Front Row – But Jarvis Faces Work To Do

The top 50 riders earned coveted front-row positions for Sunday's main event, a crucial advantage when thousands of competitors funnel into the opening sections.

Most factory stars comfortably secured their place, but there were notable exceptions.

Hard enduro legend Graham Jarvis managed to recover from a disappointing first day but still only climbed to 63rd overall, meaning the five-time winner will start further back than many of his key rivals.

Sherco factory rider Lorenzo Gandola also missed out on the front row, potentially complicating his race strategy.

Twin-Cylinder and Lady Cup Winners Confirmed

In the Twin-Cylinder category, Austrian rider Armin Ohrlinger maintained his lead aboard the Aprilia Tuareg 660.

Yamaha Tenere 700 riders Kevin Gallas and Pol Tarrés completed the podium positions, while Mario Roman impressed aboard the CFMoto machine.

In the Lady Cup competition, Sandra Gómez set the fastest overall time ahead of Tjasa Fifer, Laura Gyr, Patrycja Kulon and Anna Felhofer.

What the Results Mean for Sunday's Main Race

The biggest takeaway from the Prologue is simple: the favourites remain the favourites.

Lettenbichler, Walker, Kabakchiev, Hart and the Brightmore brothers all secured strong starting positions and avoided mistakes.

Carson Brown has emerged as one of the surprise stories of the weekend, while the electric bikes have delivered perhaps their strongest collective Erzberg performance to date.

But once the flag drops on Sunday afternoon, none of the Prologue times will matter.

Four hours later, only a handful of riders will likely reach the finish line of the world's toughest hard enduro race.

And if history has taught us anything about Erzbergrodeo, the real drama is only just beginning.
